The Masonic Art of Jens Rusch
Jens Rusch is a German based artist and Freemason whose surrealism and Masonic expressionism blend to form a unique artistic style. I wrote an article on his life and work in the US Masonic Journal last year, and when I was thinking of cover ideas for a possible compilation of my revised articles and papers in book form for publication in the next year or two, I approached Jens for ideas. Displayed here are some of those ideas, and I thought I’d include a number of other examples of Jens ‘Masonic surrealism’, artwork that conjures up a Masonic dreamscape not dissimilar to a Masonic ‘Alice in Wonderland’. As Jens said ‘The basic idea should be a child speculating on what his/her father could be doing when he goes into his lodge…’ As a father I can certainly see where he was coming from with that idea….
